Job description

The Head of Senior School will hold a key role on the Leadership Team and will work in conjunction with the Executive Principal to ensure that the Senior School has a clear strategy that sits alongside the ethos of the whole school. The post holder will offer visionary leadership, setting strategic goals and driving the overall development of the senior section, instilling a sense of confidence and empowerment in others.

Core responsibilities:

  • development of learning spaces and procurement of educational resources
  • Ongoing recruitment of senior education staff
  • Marketing and admissions of senior aged pupils
  • Development of policies and procedures (academic and operational)
  • Communications with stakeholders
  • Addressing regulatory compliance in conjunction with the Executive Principal

Learning and Teaching – oversee the creation and development of the curriculum from Grade 7 to Grade 12, ensuring it is broad, sequential, and ambitious for all children.

  • Work in conjunction with the Leadership Team to develop the curriculum and approach in seniorsbringing together the Beech Hall School Riyadh Tapestry and the IMYC, American Curriculum and IB.
  • Maintain an environment and curriculum that promotes and secures effective learning, exceptional teaching, high standards of achievement and good behavior.
  • Ensure that Assessment for Learning is constructive and informative, enabling learning to be tailored to each cohort, and supporting progress for all children. Use this system to ensure parents are kept upto date with regards their children’s progress and wellbeing.
  • Ensure that all external assessment requirements are well planned for, and executed accurately and with confidence.

Pupil wellbeing – oversee the implementation of effective pastoral care programmes to support the well-being and personal development of students.

  • Lead on safeguarding procedures for all secondary pupils and contribute to the school’s wider safeguarding team.

Inclusion – working with the Director of Inclusion, nurture a climate that is fully inclusive, celebrating the strengths, habits, and skills of every child, including those with specialist learning needs. Regardless of need or challenge, every child will be a valued and included member of the learning community.


  • Overseeing all communications to senior parents.
  • Attend meetings as appropriate with the board and provide reports as required.

Operational Leadership – ensure that all policies and procedures pertaining to the Senior section of the school are fit for purpose and embedded in a clear and consistent way.

Contribute to the financial management of the school by attending budget meetings and working with the Head of Finance/Business Manager to ensure the Senior section is managed in an economical way, taking into consideration staffing, resources etc.

Student recruitment – support the student recruitment process for the school with a particular focus on Senior aged children and their parents. In particular:

  • Meet prospective pupils and their families, making them feel welcomed and valued.
  • Create an induction process for new pupils that support a positive transition to school.

Staffing recruitment and management – support the recruitment process for the education team in the Senior section, according to rigorous standards in line with the demands set internally by BHSR leadership and staff, that of international best practice and standards set by the Saudi MoE and other government agencies.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Successful leadership in all aspects of senior school management.
  • Deep understanding and experience of the challenges and demands of leadership in an all-through, international educational setting.
  • Experienced senior practitioner and leader.
  • Experience of the International and/or American curriculum.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and leading high performing teams.
  • Recognised academic and intellectual credentials.
  • An intellectual enthusiasm for wider educational developments, particularly with relation todevelopments in technology supporting academic outcomes and effective teaching & learning.
  • Capable, strategic and involved in social media to help promote and market the school.
  • A willingness to learn and develop, remaining ahead of the curve with regards to pedagogy and research.
  • Good awareness of the cultural and operational challenges of managing a school in the Middle East or an international context.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to relate to parents, pupils, and stakeholders of the school from a wide variety of countries and cultural backgrounds.
  • A keen supporter of inclusive education.
